  • CASE STUDY:
Giclée Printing - Africa The Grand Tour

Sole Giclée print provider for distributor of Pan-African limited editions

A few years ago, Anton Aucamp from Africa The Grand Tour purchased a collection of 1950 Pan-African paintings by artist Grethe Hutt-Schonken and also purchased the rights to reproduce the works. With the help of a designer friend, he was able to digitise the collection of original artworks, and modernise them with design extensions to appeal to a more global audience.

The challenge

Anton needed a specialist printer of high quality, fully archival Giclée printing to exclusively produce the finished designs as limited edition prints, to be sold to designers and interior designers around the world, at a competitive price and fast-turnaround. The prints needed to be set up to various sizes digitally, hand finished with deckle edging, all printed to bespoke sizes, and stamped with the Africa The Grand Tour logo.

KEY CHALLENGES

- Bespoke sizing and finishing requirements
- As exclusive Giclée print partners with Africa The Grand Tour, we delivered a strong value proposition, commitment to meeting their demanding deadlines and expert Giclée printing advice at every stage to ensure the highest standards of finished print product

The solution

A bespoke price list was agreed, specified to sizes and finishing. All fine art print sale orders from Africa The Grand Tour are sent direct to Paragon Service Point Covent Garden, detailing which file, size, edition and finishing required. The prints are then produced and packed on site same-day. Paragon Service Point Covent Garden quoted on an embossed stamp for the prints, which we stock at the studio and stamp all prints with when orders come in. The prints are produced on an Epson 9900 Stylus Pro, this has the widest colour gamut available (11 colours) and uses Epson UltraChrome HRD pigment inks. Colour fastness to light tests are performed on all stocks to meet Fine Art Trade Guild standards of archival, acid-free quality. All jobs can be produced in house, and we ensure the fastest turnaround possible, no matter the size of the job.

The result

Anton's network of clients, and ranges of products offered have expanded through the sale of limited editions via Africa The Grand Tour, Anton's network of clients has drastically increased, which has allowed him to expand his products into the sale of printed loungewear via Desmond & Dempsey. The success has led to Paragon Service Point being granted exclusive supplier status.

The team produce all the prints that we sell to very critical and demanding interior decorators around the world. The printing work is always done to perfection, hand-finished and looks absolutely pristine. From the first meeting Alex and Susannah made me feel very comfortable, and educated me on printing. They have never failed to produce the prints on time and at a reasonable price. I love to go and pick up the prints and have a chat with them! I wish all my business contacts were this easy and so much fun!'
